Yang Jinqiu is the 16th generation descendant of the Miao branch in Diping Town, Liping County, Guizhou Province. This branch migrated from the Daming Mountains in Guangxi Province over 200 years ago.

Since childhood, Yang Jinqiu has been immersed in Miao culture, making her a true descendant of the "rooted and authentic" Miao lineage. She has been exposed to Miao ancient songs, legends, and customs, becoming familiar with various aspects of Miao culture.

At the age of seven, she learned paper-cutting for rituals from her father, using wooden leaves as paper, marking the beginning of her paper-cutting creations. Guided by female elders in her clan, she also began learning paper-cutting and embroidery. By the age of fifteen or sixteen, her paper-cutting skills had become quite proficient, possessing the technical prowess necessary to excel as a talented artist.

Yang Jinqiu, through her paper-cutting art, retells the epic tales and mythological stories of the Miao people, depicting numerous scenes from her daily life.

Furthermore, due to her profound understanding of both paper-cutting and embroidery techniques and their intricate relationship, she is able to accurately reproduce traditional patterns found on suspenders, clothing edges, and chest pockets through reverse deduction. With a long and fruitful creative career, she has already produced over 1200 representative works.
